Communications and Outreach Coordinator

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Sacramento Valley/Central California, (CAIR-SV/CC) is hiring a Communications and Outreach Coordinator to implement a comprehensive media and public relations strategy that capitalizes on CAIR-SVCC's expertise and enhances CAIR's image within key constituencies.
This position offers a unique opportunity to join the team at one of the nation's largest CAIR chapters at a time in history where the American Muslim community is facing both incredible challenges and opportunities.
Location:
Office located in Sacramento, CA.
Hybrid Work-from-home structure is currently in place due to COVID-19.

Responsibilities:
Develop and implement an integrated, organization wide strategic media and public relations plan that will allow CAIR-SVCC?to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted audiences, including the media,?public?officials?and key influencers Execute CAIR-SVCC's social media vision and strategy:
target and engage activists, allies, and Muslim community members across all digital channels Draft and edit external communications including press statements/releases, fact sheets, e-mails, e-newsletters?and action alerts Pitch and secure stories to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance including CAIR-SVCC's programs, special events, public announcements, and other?projects Manage and maintain CAIR-SVCC?website with updated?content Support as point person on media interactions (editors, reporters,?producers?and other media professionals)?and actively cultivate and manage media relationships Lead efforts to enhance engagement among the wider Muslim community on a variety of social justice and civic engagement issues.
Conduct direct outreach to the community through tabling, phone banking, canvassing, etc.
Build interest within the community through outreach, programs, organizing and advocacy.
Grow and establish relationships with leaders and the community, including hard-to-reach and underserved populations.
Work with regional partners on outreach, programs, advocacy and social justice issues.
Plan and deliver programs, trainings, workshops, forums and educational sessions to increase engagement and knowledge of key issues.
Ensure CAIR has a presence at masajid and other community events, activities and meetings.
Executive support to coordinate and provide assistance as needed.
Travel for outreach including participating in community events and coalition meetings.
Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred -- in the field of Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field 1-2 years of work experience in a communications/public relations role Experience working with media as an on-the-record spokesperson Experience developing and implementing communications strategies Foundational understanding of design and visual elements and how to create simple yet effective graphics is necessary Experience managing and writing copy for social media is necessary Familiarity in communicating with the Muslim community is a plus Experience with Canva, Adobe photoshop/In-Design/Illustrator, or other graphic design programs is a plus Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical level Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives Experience working with the American Muslim Community Commitment to social justice and passion for CAIR's mission and values.
Experience supervising and delegating responsibilities effectively.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
